John Avery

President / Chief Engineer

Mr. Avery has over two decades of experience in aerospace, supporting programs such as the high-tech Joint Strike Fighters (JSF F-35A, B and C), Unmanned Combat Air System (X-47A and X-47B), and civil aviation aircraft such as the Adam M309, Eclipse 500, HondaJet (HA-420), to unconventional designs such the Stratolaunch, Rotary Rocket Atmospheric Test Vehicle (ATV), JSF Avionics Test Bed (CATB) (Boeing 737-300), Proteus (Model 395) and the Avery Walrus (JA5), as well as others that cannot be listed. He has worked directly, contracted, or consulted for Scaled Composites, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works, Northrop Grumman, Eclipse Aviation, Honda Aircraft Company, Toyota Aviation Business Development Office and Berkut Engineering, among others. Mr. Avery has worked several aircraft programs from conception to first flight, as well as major modifications such as new wing designs to interior reconfigurations. Previous work varied from experimental proof-of-concept aircraft to supporting type certificates (TCs) of new aircraft, to supporting manufacturing (MRB), to obtaining supplemental type certificates (STCs). He started his career working for the legendary Burt Rutan at Scaled Composites, where was hired as a design engineer and structural analyst.

John Avery earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree from the Aerospace Department at the University of Florida, Gainesville. He has been published in the field of composite research in the Journal of Composite Materials and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. His other accomplishments include approval from the US Patent and Trademark Office for a number of patents in the fields of consumer products, aerospace components and vertical takeoff and landing configurations. He is an instrument rated, commercial pilot that has performed two first flights of experimental aircraft.

Mr. Avery founded Avery Aerospace Corporation in 2003 to provide engineering services in the aerospace field. The company currently provides engineering analysis support of aerospace products.
